“Only Christianity Offers Life”
Title: The God Who Comes Near
Introduction
Every religion tries to answer the same question: How can a human being find life with God?
Christianity and Islam both speak of God, morality, and eternity — but they offer radically different paths. One path depends on human effort. The other depends on divine grace.
Today, I want to show you why only Christianity offers assurance of eternal life — because only Christianity offers a Savior who has already done the saving.
1. The Nature of God
Islam: A God who remains distant
The Qur’an emphasizes God’s absolute separation:
• “He begets not, nor is He begotten.” — Qur’an 112:3
Allah is Creator and Judge, but not Father. He does not enter creation.
Christianity: A God who draws near
The Bible reveals a God who is relational:
• “God is love.” — 1 John 4:8
• Jesus says, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” — John 14:9
God does not stay distant — He steps into history in the person of Jesus Christ.
Christianity alone proclaims a God who comes close enough to save.
2. The Human Condition
Islam: Humans need guidance
The Qur’an teaches that humans are weak but capable:
• “Whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it.” — Qur’an 99:7
The problem is ignorance and disobedience; the solution is instruction and effort.
Christianity: Humans need resurrection
Scripture says we are spiritually dead:
• “You were dead in your trespasses and sins.” — Ephesians 2:1
Dead people don’t need guidance — they need life.
3. The Path to Salvation
Islam: Salvation by deeds
Eternal destiny depends on one’s own righteousness:
• “Those whose scales are heavy [with good deeds]… will be successful.” — Qur’an 23:102
Even Muhammad had no assurance:
• “I do not know what will be done with me or with you.” — Qur’an 46:9
Christianity: Salvation by grace
The gospel declares salvation as a gift:
• “By grace you have been saved… not a result of works.” — Ephesians 2:8–9
• “The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 6:23
Jesus doesn’t show the way — He is the way:
• “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” — John 14:6
Islam says: Do more.
Christianity says: It is finished.
4. The Person of Jesus
Islam: A prophet, not a Savior
The Qur’an denies the crucifixion:
• “They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him.” — Qur’an 4:157
Christianity: The crucified and risen Lord
The cross is the centre of God’s plan:
• “Christ died for our sins… he was buried… he was raised.” — 1 Corinthians 15:3–
Only a crucified and risen Savior can give life.
5. Assurance of Eternal Life
Islam: Uncertainty
Salvation is always inshallah — “if God wills.”
Christianity: Certainty
Jesus gives assurance:
• “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.” — John 10:28
• “That you may know that you have eternal life.” — 1 John 5:13
Only Christianity offers life — because only Christianity offers a Savior who guarantees it.
CONCLUSION:
Islam offers a path of striving.
Christianity offers a Person.
Islam says: Walk the path and hope for mercy.
Christianity says: Receive the mercy that has already come to you.
The question is not, “Are you good enough?”
The question is, “Will you receive the life Jesus freely gives?”
