Christmas Appeal 2021

CHRISTMAS APPEAL 2021:
Christmas is almost here. Another year will soon be passed, and how unlike anything we would have imagined it has been! There has been a lot of heartaches, sorrows, and disappointments.
But we would like, by our united efforts, to once again be instruments in His Hands to spread some light, and some Christmas cheer, and to strengthen the hands that hang down and the feeble knees.
We have some specific needs and requests that we would like to meet. This year we will try to stick to the most urgent needs. (Please see the following pages).
We are looking forward to seeing what we, as a team, can do to help others celebrate this season.

FOOD VOUCHERS:

This Christmas the need seems greater than ever. And as with some of the previous years, rather than food parcels, which would require a lot of physical work for Philip and me, and at a time when most people are busy and are either away or unable to assist, we would like to rather assist the needy with a food voucher.
Since the need is so great we are aiming for 100 vouchers of R 250 each.
Ideally, we would like the vouchers to be redeemable in either Shoprite or Checkers, as in previous years.
You can either assist by buying some vouchers for us to distribute or by donating the funds towards the purchase.
These (everything mentioned in this brochure) are goals we are shooting for, but whatever we are able to do will make a difference for those it reaches, and we will be very grateful!

SPECIAL REQUESTS:
A SMALL CHEST FREEZER:

One of the kitchens that we support, Bright Stars, located in Nomazamo, which caters to +  300 people a day, is in urgent need of a small chest freezer.
If you are able and would like to contribute towards this, it would be a most helpful and valued contribution which would benefit many people in the long run.
They need the freezer in order to also prevent the donated vegetables, like potatoes, carrots, etc. from spoiling in the summer heat. They would like to be able to prepare the veggies while they are still fresh and to freeze them for the day they are needed. Naturally soup bones, etc. could also be stored there.
If any of you have a used 2nd hand chest freezer, in good condition, that you would like to donate towards this project, it is greatly appreciated. It does not have to be brand new, although that would be nice. We thank you in advance for your consideration!

A 40 LITER COOKING POT:

Another kitchen we support, Angel’s Kitchen, located in Sir Lowry’s Pass, which mainly caters to the children in their immediate neighborhood and feeds anywhere between 60-80 people a day, is in dire need of a pot.
One of their pots is so worn out that it now leaks and is no longer useable. They are looking for a 40-liter pot (as that it what will be able to fit on their stove).
Again, if you have such a pot that is in good condition, that you would like to donate, or if you would like to contribute towards a new one we would be very grateful -- as long as any used pot is still in good condition.

CHRISTMAS FOR THE CHILDREN:

The Light House soup kitchen catering for children has asked our assistance in providing a nice Christmas celebration for the children.
Their event will be held on the 27th of December and will be for approximately 200 children.

They are in need of:

2 boxes of chicken, (20 kg), and sausages (for a braai)
10 kg rice (for salad)
10 kg pasta (for salad)
Variety of vegetables (for the salads)
5 kg Mayonnaise
Ice-cream  (10 ltr.?)

ADDITIONALLY:
We are looking for another 8 boxes (of 10 kg) of chicken (a total of 10 boxes including the above event).
The chicken is to be distributed to the families that are presently dependent upon the Sir Lowry’s Pass Food Bank (which we set up), and for families dependent on various soup kitchens that will be closed during the holidays.
