2018 Vision and Goals

Dear Ones,
We want to send a warm THANK YOU for being part of and enabling our work for the Lord to keep going for as many years as it has. We feel like we are still only just getting started as we continually see so much more to be done. But looking back we are very thankful for all that we as a team have been able to accomplish, a miracle that you are part of!!! THANK YOU!
As you most likely all will agree our greatest accomplishments will always be those that will last throughout eternity. Therefore we consider our teaching the Word of God, and now teaching Bible School, which will lay a good strong solid foundation of faith and cause the roots to grow deep, enabling people to stand strong during life’s storms, our most important mission. But we will still continue to minister to all of the human needs in as much as we are able, and having a wonderful team, like you give us great hope of greater things to come.
We are writing you to share with you some of our hopes and aspirations for the new year as you are an invaluable part of the work and we would like you to uphold it all in your prayers. Thank you!
# 1. Improve the venue we teach at. For this we need 50 strong study adult plastic chairs.
#2. 50 ceramic cups and improved hospitality.
# 3. Monthly food vouchers to a value of R 3-500 each (depending on the size of the family) for the most impoverished families some of which are too old to work, sick, unemployed, etc. while still having big families in their care (+ 10 families to start with).
# 4. Empowerment projects to help people stir up and do what they can by realizing the potential in each of them and helping them find something to put their hand to.
# 5. To help equip those with a vision to get started in small businesses, etc. (We are at the moment helping two such people).
#6. To continue to provide shelter/housing for those that are without.
# 7. To help improve the living conditions where our help is needed.
# 8. To establish contacts that can help by donating the following: food, meat, fruit and vegetables, bread, eggs, etc. etc.
Some of our previous contacts are no longer in a position to help due to the economic situation, but we are trusting God to eventually re-establish those contacts and to help us find new ones that can fill the gap.
#9. Continue to help the ECD centres with some of their many needs, esp. food and clothing, shoes, etc.
#10. Make a plan to help students more when the new school year starts as it is always a big struggle for them to get all their supplies, school uniforms, shoes, etc.
# 11. To continue to assist the soup kitchen as they feed approximately 1-200 people a day.
#12. To continue to help and encourage people to attend the church, various seminars and conferences, etc. In order that they may be spiritually fed, built up and better equipped for life.
...And to leave ourselves open to what else the Lord may want to work through us. The above is a brief summary of our present vision and initiatives. But we are not limited to this.
Thank you once again for your continued help and support as we together change the world and have already had a tremendous impact on the community of Sir Lowry’s Pass.

Dear Ones, After an outstanding Christmas/New year’s celebration we are happy to be back in South Africa where the Lord called us to ministry years ago. There are as always many new challenges awaiting us, but we know that the Lord will not call us to a task that He will also not equip us for. So we are eagerly awaiting all the wonderful accomplishments, changed lives, etc. that this year will bring forth.
To each of our partners, friends and supporters, we THANK YOU! We could never do this work without a faithful team to rely on. Many of you have stood by us for years and thus our accomplishments are your accomplishments and we invite you to rejoice with us over all the wonderful changes/improvements.
SUPPLIES:
Here we are with one of our twice weekly food supplies from Woolies, which is a great help for Joyce’s Soup Kitchen in Sir LowAry’s Pass!
Stationery supplies for a young man in Sir Lowry’s Pass whose mother simply could not afford it.
GRACELIFE FAMILY DAY:
A special Family Day Braai was held by Gracelife Church. There were delicious boerwors rolls (of which we were able to sponsor 50 for half price to make them more readily available for our students from Sir Lowry’s
Pass), and lots of fun games, balloons and fellowship! A great time was had by big and small alike!
Every Sunday for church and frequently on Saturdays when a special conference is held, transportation is provided from Sir Lowry’s Pass to Stellenbosch and back, which is greatly appreciated by many. J
PLANS FOR THE NEW YEAR:
Our teaching has now started up in earnest again. We want to start by thanking Christiaan who is an outstanding teacher and filled the gap while we were visiting with our family. It is wonderful to be working with hard-working dedicated people like you! Thank you! This year the plan for this year is:
Monday evening: Bible studies. This will be for anyone interested, students old and new!
Thursday evening: Bible School, For those that would like to enroll, which would provide them with printed notes of each class, a certificate once the full Bible year curriculum has been covered and an official graduation ceremony at the end. The enrollment fee has been reduced to half price to make it more readily accessible. For those that are not able/interested in serious enrollment they will still be welcome to sit in whenever they want, but will be invited to take their own notes and will not be able receiving a certificate etc. at the end.
“Rooted’’ the basic discipleship course we covered last year, will also be made available for anyone who has not yet done it and would like a strong foundation to build on.
Friday: We will be doing special leadership training with the new leaders in the community.
2017 HIGHLIGHTS:
JANUARY:
Back to School event with special treats and gifts for the children to celebrate the new school year.
FEBRUARY:
New housing provided for single mother of 3 children. Sir Lowry’s Pass.
MARCH:
Big home improvements for another single mother. The room was divided to provide privacy as well.
APRIL:
Bible studies started teaching the benefits and rewards in entering into relationship with Jesus.
MAY:
A woman, who was suffering from asthma due to poor living conditions was helped to better housing.
JUNE:
Big generous Food Hampers were provided for some of the most needy families in Sir Lowry’s Pass.
JULY:
Better, safer and more comfortable housing provided for a family of three from Zimbabwe. Roof repair & furniture provided.
AUGUST:
Outside and inside walls were replaced in a house of a single mother of four. Sir Lowry’s Pass!
SEPTEMBER:
Plumbing installed for a family providing them with running water and drainage/shower, etc.
OCTOBER:
20 people graduated from a basic discipleship course which taught them how to walk in victory!
NOVEMBER:
We received approximately half a ton of chocolate ice-cream just in time for Christmas!
DECEMBER:
Besides the ice-cream we also distributed ducks and 35 Gift Cards of R 300 each per family!
Please bear in mind that the highlights shared above were just that. Besides that the Lord provided lots of supplies such as: food, personal hygiene supplies, building materials, etc. Also our Bible study group grew so that we moved to Emily’s Play School to more comfortably accommodate everyone.
This year we are praying for comfortable chairs (like plastic garden chairs), ceramic coffee cups, glasses, etc. If you would like to help with any of these needs please contact us. We will need a minimum of 30 chairs, cups, etc. to start with.
This year we will again be teaching three times a week and are excited to announce that our groups continue to grow. The Lord has great things in store for us in the year ahead and we are excited!
Our latest news from our ministry in Sir Lowry's Pass Village
Sir Lowry's Pass Village -July 2012
Dear Ones, We hope our news find you well! Thank you so much for partnering with us, - as a team we do it better! As mentioned the Lord miraculously provided a projector for the ministry, and here, in photos 1 & 2 we had an event for approx. 200 children. We showed Bible cartoons, made fun balloon sculptures andled them in prayer to receive the Lord as their personal Saviour.

On the 14th of July the heavy rains during the night and previous days caused flooding in Sir Lowry’s Pass village. It was broadcast on the early news that approx. 500 people had sought refuge in the community centre. We brought warm dry blankets and some food supplies, which was much appreciate
The children at Emily’s soup kitchen are rejoicing and giving thanks to the Lord and us for the nice Weet-Bix! A yummy treat for all!
The best support is the Lord! Philip is faithfully ministering the Word of God's to the less privilege people in the soup kitchen on a weekly basis in order to build up their faith and teach them to look to the Lord for their help and strength.
More about our ministry
Our Prayer Ministry: This month we had people who came to know about us via the internet contact us, asking if they could please join us in our ministry. They expressed their dissatisfaction in “just being part of a coffee drinking group”, as they put it in referring to their cell groups. They joined us in Sir Lowry’s Pass, as well as at our hospital ministry, and they were very thankful for the opportunity to pour out and minister to others, as well as to see some awesome answers to prayer. We have previously had others join us in this way as well, until they felt ready to go out on their own. We are very happy to be able to help like this as Jesus said that the labourers are few and that we are to pray for more labourers. As a result of our prayers at the soup kitchen, many have been freed from pain and various sicknesses. We also pray for many to be set free from addictions, and try to help them change their life style.Testimonies:
We prayed for someone who had a twisted swollen ankle and could hardly walk. After the prayer the foot was 100% - even the swelling was down, and she walked without as much as a limp.—When at a market a young child nearly choked on a piece of hard candy. The father had the boy upside down, banging his back, etc. all to no avail. After commanding the candy to be dislodged immediately in Jesus Name, the boy promptly swallowed it and all was fine.– A man with a severe burn and in great pain was healed and released from hospital only a couple of days later. A man was admitted with severe pain in both knees awaiting an operation. He was miraculously healed and released a few days later w/o surgery.

Dear Ones, welcome to the June edition of our newsletter.
We hope it finds you all well, in good health and prosperous.
Philip and Joyce are testifying of the Lord’s goodness as the electricity was turned back on in the soup kitchen after a 6 months wait! God is great and answers prayer!
Thanks to Dis-Chem we were able this time to bless the staff at the soup kitchen with a warm blanket each.
At the crèche “Sunshine Kids” we delivered blankets and 2 boxes of nappies.
Emily’s soup received nappies and hygiene supplies.
Thanks to Clara (Kingfisher Hallow) we were able to deliver a box of beautiful hand knitted baby clothes and blankets to the HH hospital. We had seen a notice on the door asking for assistance in this way.
We were met with great thankfulness and taken to the nursery and mothers room where some single and teenage mothers each gratefully received some blankets and baby clothes. There was still some left which we asked to be given to the next needy mothers.
During the school holidays the Soup Kitchen is, in addition to the cooking they are already doing, making a warm meal for all the school children. They gather the children in a nearby church hall for the meal and keep them there for games etc. thus helping to keep boys like these off the streets.
A big THANK you to a nearby Spar for assisting the soup kitchen when possible. It has happened at times that there was not enough food for the staff and that the bread/food from Spar would arrive as a great comfort to the hungry staff.

I don't like to use the word “die,” because it's not really death. Actually, we who believe in Jesus don't really die, for the Bible says “whosoever lives and believes in Me [Jesus] shall never die” (John 11:26). It says in another place, “They shall not see death” (John 8:51). And in another passage St. Paul says, “Death, where is thy sting? Grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin” (1 Corinthians 15:55-56).
For us, death will have no sting because our sins are forgiven, and the grave will have no victory because we have conquered the grave through Christ and our salvation and our eventual resurrection. Our spirits are immediately free to go to be with the Lord, so it's not really death for us in the same way it is for others. We don't really die in the sense that they die.
That's why I don't like to call it “dying” or “death.” I prefer to call it “graduation,” “passing on” or “promotion.” It's just like passing from one room to another, and it's a very beautiful experience for those who know and love the Lord.
Just make sure you're prepared by receiving Jesus as your Savior. Then you will be ready when He comes for you, and in the meantime you can live life to the full, knowing you're safe and sound and Heaven-bound! Receive Jesus today! -- By David Brandt Berg
A company in Johannesburg has said that they might be able to assist us with a generator in about a month’s time. We have also contacted a company for help with the needed screen, and it is presently under consideration. Please keep all this in your prayers for a positive and speedy outcome, as well as for the PA system and vehicle.
A portable PA system will draw many as we know the Lord to hear the message. This will also be used for praise and worship, teaching, preaching, etc. Also a portable screen suitable for in/outdoor use and large to small gatherings.

Our vision is to “go into all the world”. To accomplish our mission well and to attract as many as possible we need a generator so we can go anywhere anytime and not be hindered for lack of electricity.
We are looking also for a spacious station wagon, diesel, maximum 5 years old! Our present station wagon Ford 1998 runs on fuel, which is now becoming quite costly, and it is in constant need of repairs. We believe it is now time for a good strong vehicle for the Lord’s Work.
A special THANK you goes to Marius and family for the projector! And, only two days after receiving it, we already have our first event! On the 12th of July there will be a special event for approx. 200 children in Sir Lowry’s Pass. Showing a film had been part of the program, but the person had to cancel. We are thrilled to be able to stand in the gap! We will also be entertaining with balloons, etc. and will be showing some very inspiring Bible based cartoons. Please keep this event in your prayers, thank you! -
